About us
Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is behind the corner and we can’t avoid recalling the amazing week we had the last time we were there. In fact, due to a coincidence and to a hostel overbooking, we met Silvia and Silvana, two brilliant ladies who gave us the chance to take a look inside the Samba Parade in Rio de Janeiro.
Once back in Europe, our initial intention was to settle down for good somewhere, and we chose the amazing city of Barcelona, where we had previously lived when working as flight attendants. Since wine is our second passion, after travelling, we opened our own business: a wine bar
The idea was to create a space where fellow travellers from all over the world could meet, chat, share experiences and good wines. What an amazing time we had there! However, the travel bug bit us again, so four years and many bottles of wine later, we finally took the decision to follow our real dreams again.
How do we afford our “missions” around the globe?
Our nr.1 rule is to work in countries with a strong currency and where salaries are high, in order to save money that we can later spend to support our journeys. Sometimes we work online too. In our blog we explain our strategies about how we afford to be away from home, and how we save money on flights and accommodation. Indeed, here you will find some ideas about how to get a travel job, an expat job or a remote job. In addition, we share our tips about how we travel at the best value.
At the same time, we also write about the mistakes we make, in order for you to avoid them. The aim is to keep a diary of our adventures, while (hopefully) inspiring you to step outside your comfort zone too and live the life of your dreams.
Although we had already travelled to many places before starting a travel blog, we never really thought about writing about our adventures around the globe.
Are you thinking of leaving for an adventurous gap year too? Our suggestion is: Do it! In the picture here below we are at The Great Wall of China, and we learnt something that is just so true, that day. In fact, as Confucius said “If I hear I forget, if I see I remember, if I do I understand”. You may read about other people’s experiences, but only by living yours, you will understand your journey!
How we met and who we are
Born and raised in Italy, we met on a flight to Cuba several years ago, while working as flight attendants. Unlike other couples who leave for a gap year around the world, we had no boring routine and no 9 to 5 jobs to quit. Actually, before we even met, we had already visited great part of the globe thanks to our cabin crew jobs. However, our travel obsession and our spirit of adventure pushed us to the next level: we wanted to travel our way and at our pace, with no more scheduled shifts, impersonal hotels and uniforms with no charisma.
Although travelling is the biggest passion we have in common, we have very different personalities.
About Silva
To put it briefly, I am behind the texts of globeabout.com. I am fluent in Italian, Spanish and English. I have lived and studied in Italy, in the U.S.A., in Spain, and in Ireland. In addition, I have also lived in Greece, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. That said, English is not my native language, so feel free to make fun of me and write your comments here below!
Fun fact: at the age of 8, I went on a trip to Paris with my mum. While observing the city from the Eiffel Tower, I had a sort of revelation: I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be once grown up, but I knew I would have travelled the entire world. And here I am, 70+ countries later!
I love cycling, rainbows, yoga, sunsets, music festivals, good wines, organic food and happy people. Frankly, I am terrible at cooking, but I can prepare delicious cocktails and I always share my “secret mojito recipe” with other fellow-travellers. Although I have an obsession with rooftop bars, my perfect day is actually barefoot on a tropical beach, ending with an amazing sunset.
About Nico
I have a background in the Travel and Hospitality business, and as a web designer. I have built this website from scratch, so if you need a website too, or if you need a logo, just contact me. I have lived and studied in Italy, U.K. and France. In addition, I have lived in Spain, Florida, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. I am completely fluent in English, Italian, Spanish and French. Wannabe photographer, I took most of the photos that you see on this website.
Fun fact: since Silva is a disaster in the kitchen, I developed my cooking skills, and I can now prepare a delicious risotto or pasta, as well as Mediterranean style meat and fish dishes
My perfect day starts with fresh fruits for breakfast, it continues on a bicycle, exploring new places, and it ends with a good dinner and a bottle of wine.
